Description
SEATTLE – America’s only professional string octet, The Young Eight, will perform from 8 to 9:30 in Pigott Auditorium. Founded in 2002 by Quinton Morris, SU’s new director and instructor of music, the critically acclaimed African-American octet is dedicated to exposing various communities to the arts through classical music. The concert will feature a very eclectic and innovative program highlighting The Young Eight's technical and innovative artistry.

The program, geared towards the younger generation features the "Hip-Hop Experience II" by Young Eight member Carl St. Jacques. Listeners can expect to hear songs from 50 cent, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Outcast, Keyshia Cole, Jay-Z, Kanye West and Roc Boys. Two pieces, "Blue Note Room" and "Brooklyn Love for String Octet" by Michael DePaul will feature Toyia Taylor, a Seattle native residing in Brooklyn, New York who will recite poetry that is "soulful, sultry and absolutely amazing".
